PRISMA
PRISMA: Advanced Liquid Air Energy Storage
industrial users with energy flexibility resulting in significant energy savings
and hours of back-up energy storage on demand.
Solving industry’s compressed air energy challenge
Compressed air generation is one of the most energy-intensive processes in industrial operation. It typically accounts for up to 30% of a site’s total electricity consumption. It’s not only costly but often inefficient, with significant energy waste.
With PRISMA your compressors become a valuable, flexible asset. Our award-winning ‘behind-the-meter’ solution is designed to optimise existing compressed air systems. By enabling energy-intensive, part-loaded compressors to be turned off for long durations, PRISMA can reduce energy consumption by up to 30%, dramatically improving system efficiency and cutting operational costs.
500X
PRISMA operates at cryogenic temperatures and stores up to 500 times the amount of air stored by traditional air receivers.
30%
PRISMA delivers industrial users with up to 30% energy savings and hours of back-up energy storage.
CO₂
PRISMA has the potential to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 30% annually - or more if co-located with renewables.
PRISMA: A more sustainable alternative
to lithium-ion batteries
Compressed air generation is a major energy consumer, accounting for around 10% of all industrial electricity use in the UK. With rising energy costs and increasing pressure to decarbonise, it’s critical to optimise your compressed air systems now.
20 years+ product life
Suitable for extended storage periods - from 8-100hrs+
More sustainable - no disposal issues
The PRISMA concept
The concept of Compressor Integrated Liquid Air Energy Storage offers something completely new to the industrial market.
Charge
Charges up at the lowest electricity cost creating an energy dense store of cold liquefied air.
Discharge
Discharges to provide hours of compressed air.
Savings
Enables energy-hungry compressors to be turned down or off to access better tariffs, avoid peak charges & generate revenue through demand flexibility services.

FAQs
Still got questions? You’re in the right place.
How does PRISMA connect to my plant?
The PRISMA system comprises of standalone storage vessels and a charge air enclosure. It requires a standard compressed air pipework connection teeing into your existing air receiver or compressed air pipework. It also requires a 3-phase electrical connection.
Do I have to do anything to control or maintain PRISMA?
No. The system is remotely monitored and controlled to charge, or discharge, based on price and carbon signals from the grid like any other demand side response system. Maintenance is carried out by an appointed service company arranged by Innovatium in conjunction with the client.
What is PRISMA’s footprint?
PRISMA is made up of three vessels and an enclosure that provides the charge air, controls and automation. The vessels are sized: 3.4m tall x 2m diameter, 1.9m tall x 2.7m diameter, and 1.1m x 1.1m. The charge air enclosure will be the size of a 20ft container, all externally located.
Are any permits required for PRISMA?
No special permits are required. The materials and nature of operation are commonplace across industry. Normal product certification and personal protections accompany the system in line with compressed air and cryogenic systems codes of practice.
How can I quantify the carbon savings?
We provide a projection of anticipated carbon savings based on grid carbon intensity data alongside any site renewable generation you have. A comparison is drawn for your existing usage versus usage with PRISMA energy storage.
