The next Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) deadline is fast approaching. By 5th December 2025, large UK businesses must submit a Progress Update outlining what energy-saving actions they’ve taken, and the reductions achieved so far.
This is a new element of the ESOS scheme that is about encouraging tangible action. Businesses need to report on what measures they’ve implemented and what energy they’ve saved. These can be measures outlined in their Action Plan, or new measures that have come to light since then.
Compressed air: the hidden energy drain
If the Progress Update deadline is prompting energy efficiency action in your manufacturing business, it could be time to look at your compressed air system.
Compressed air is one of the most inefficient energy sources in industrial settings. It’s essential but often oversized, overused, and under-monitored. For many manufacturers, it can account for up to 30% of total electricity use.
That’s why a compressed air energy audit is a smart first step. Our team at Innovatium can help you identify inefficiencies, wasted energy and quick wins to bring costs and emissions down.
How PRISMA fits into your ESOS action plan
PRISMA is a Liquid Air Energy Storage (LAES) system designed for industrial businesses that rely heavily on compressed air. It stores energy during off-peak hours and delivers clean, dry compressed air on demand - reducing the need to run traditional compressors during expensive or high-carbon periods.
PRISMA helps avoid running compressors at part-load (one of the biggest sources of energy waste). When paired with solar PV or other on-site renewables, PRISMA also enables a cleaner, low-carbon supply of compressed air.
For energy-intensive industries PRISMA offers a pathway to lower emissions, reduced peak energy costs and greater control over energy use.
